About the catalogue

The public, continuously updated inventory produced by a living scoping review of data resources relevant to the 26 August 2026 Nepal glacier-related hazard cascade.

What this catalogue is

A scoping review systematically identifies and maps the available evidence on a topic, field, concept, or issue. Depending on its objective, it may describe what evidence exists, clarify concepts or boundaries, examine how a topic has been studied, or identify knowledge gaps. This review applies that method to publicly available data resources relevant to the 26 August 2026 hazard cascade.

This catalogue is the item-level public record created from that review. It brings dispersed resources into a consistent structure and describes their provider, provenance, geographic and temporal coverage, access conditions, licence information, production method where documented, limitations, uncertainties, and review status.

The review and catalogue are updated at prespecified intervals or when predefined triggers are met. Completed, partial and unavailable searches are dated in the search register, while the resources and assets indexes show the current public catalogue.

Catalogue coverage

The catalogue covers resources that can support investigation of the event, its causes and consequences, and the wider conditions relevant to hazard, exposure, and risk.

Data and information domains
Geographical, geological, geomorphological, hydrological, cryospheric, environmental, infrastructure, and societal data and information.
Resource types
Datasets; satellite imagery and derived products; geospatial layers; observations and measurements; APIs and data services; data-bearing technical reports; reproducible code; and official webpages containing unique data.
Providers
National and local authorities; scientific and technical agencies; universities and research institutes; international and humanitarian organizations; satellite archives; research and geospatial repositories; mapping services; and project websites.
Place and time
The source area in Tibet, the affected corridor in Nepal, and connected areas relevant to the cascade, across pre-event baseline, event, and post-event periods.

The article will describe how resources were identified, screened, and documented, and will report their characteristics, coverage, and the data gaps identified by the review. This catalogue provides the detailed resource inventory, while the interactive WebGIS presents the spatially enabled subset.

How the catalogue is built

  1. Search

    Each search is designed for a defined source and purpose. Its interface, strategy, criteria, coverage, date, and results are documented in the public search register.

  2. Assess

    Each record is assessed against the predefined eligibility criteria. Until that assessment is complete, it remains under review.

  3. Review

    The eligibility decision is independently reviewed. Any disagreement is resolved before the record is marked reviewed or excluded.

  4. Describe

    For an eligible resource, information is charted from authoritative sources and organized into consistent fields covering identity, provenance, coverage, access, licensing, methods, validation, uncertainty, and limitations.

  5. Inventory assets

    Files, layers, satellite scenes, and service endpoints belonging to a record or resource are listed as assets. Assets remain attached to their parent entry and are not counted as separate resources.

  6. Update

    Later searches identify new or changed material. Entries are added, corrected, superseded, or otherwise updated while their status remains explicit.

Review method and reporting standards

PRISMA stands for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. It is a family of reporting guidelines: it specifies what a review should report clearly and transparently, but it does not replace the method used to conduct the review.

JBI and PRISMA therefore have different roles in this project. JBI guides how the scoping review is conducted; the relevant PRISMA guidelines guide how its methods and results are reported.

JBI
Provides the methodological framework for defining the review, searching for evidence, selecting sources, charting information, and presenting a scoping review.
PRISMA-ScR
The PRISMA extension for scoping reviews. It guides reporting of the review question, eligibility, information sources, selection, charting, results, limitations, and conclusions.
PRISMA-S
The PRISMA extension for searches. It supports reproducible reporting of where, when, and how searches were conducted, including complete strategies and any limits used.
PRISMA 2020 flow
Provides the structure for reporting how many records were identified, removed as duplicates, assessed, excluded, and included.
PRISMA-LSR
Adds reporting items for reviews that are continually updated. Because it was developed primarily for living systematic reviews, only items applicable to this living scoping review are used.

How to read catalogue entries

Record
An item identified through a documented search. A record remains under review until its eligibility and required information have been assessed.
Resource
An eligible dataset, report, service, codebase, or other data-bearing item represented once in the catalogue, even when several records point to it.
Asset
A file, layer, scene, or endpoint associated with a record or resource. It is part of that parent entry rather than an additional resource.
Reviewed
The resource has completed eligibility assessment and verification of its required catalogue information. This does not state that it has been included in a manuscript version.
Under review
The item has been identified, but its eligibility or required information is still being assessed.

Eligibility

Resources are assessed against criteria defined for the living scoping review.

Eligible

  • Datasets, imagery and derived products, geospatial layers, APIs and services, data-bearing technical reports, reproducible code, and official webpages containing unique measurements.
  • Resources that inform documentation, analysis, or interpretation of the hazard cascade or relevant conditions within the affected corridor.
  • Resources available without charge through direct access, free registration, or a transparent no-cost request route.
  • Resources in any language.

Not eligible

  • Paid or private holdings and resources with an opaque access process.
  • Resources unrelated to the event or the defined cascade corridor.
  • Commentary or duplicate news coverage containing no unique data.

Evidence classification

Each reviewed resource is classified by the kind of evidence it provides.

Observed
Measurements, field observations, instrument records, or source imagery.
Interpreted
Human-interpreted mapping, classification, or analysis derived from observations.
Automated
Outputs produced principally through automated detection or classification.
Modelled
Simulations, estimates, forecasts, or model-based reconstructions.
Baseline
Pre-event or contextual physical and environmental conditions.
Exposure
Population, infrastructure, land use, services, or other elements potentially affected.
Mixed
A resource containing more than one evidence class.
